IMPORTANT:  Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the weather as they will be outside throughout the day for Phys Ed and recess.  It's always better to have more layers than feel chilly in our unpredictable weather.

If you have not returned your paperwork, please do so as soon as possible.

In math, we worked more on PLACE VALUE.  We also practiced ordering numbers from 0 to 9,999.  Finally, we reviewed EXPANDED FORM.  When you think about it, writing numbers in expanded form is actually pretty easy.  You just write the numbers like you say them.

Can your child write the number 4,837 in expanded form?  (Secret Question)

Today we read chapter 6 of our novel, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.  Boy that Fudge sure gets himself into trouble!  He can't even go shoe shopping without causing some form of embarrassment for the family.  We are having lots of discussions around how each of the characters feels about the important events in each chapter.  What will Fudge get up to next?

We learned a little bit about southern Ontario.  Toronto is the largest city in Canada and Ottawa is where Prime Minister Trudeau lives because the parliament buildings were build here.  Did you know that the area of southern Ontario is shaped like an elephant?  In grade 4, we get to learn all about Alberta.  There are all kinds of symbols and emblems associated with our fascinating province.  We have a Provincial shield, bird, animal, flower, tree, fish, and even a stone.  This stone, called petrified rock, actually started off as wood!

Every day after lunch, we are going to have Guided Reading.  All students have been given a baggie of  books to keep in their bin.  Though things will look a little but different this year, all students will still have the chance to read with the teacher and complete a variety of tasks related to the book their group is reading.

In the afternoon, we had a surprise fire alarm.  No one was expecting this, and the Fire Department even came!  Luckily, there was no fire and everyone was safe, the school itself, too!  Everyone did a GREAT job exiting the building quickly and quietly, waiting for instructions from their teacher.

On Wednesday, students will have the opportunity to log on to the computers for the first time.  If they are able to practice at home first to see if they remember their password, this will help make things run more smoothly on Wednesday.  If not, I will have a list of potential passwords for them to try.  If those don't work, we will reset their passwords before our next opportunity with the computers.

Let's see what exciting things Ms. Kelly's Characters learn about tomorrow!
